Thanksgiving Feast…

Posted by & filed under #ArchiTalks, Personal.

The following is a part of the #ArchiTalks series wherein a topic is suggested and a group of architect bloggers each give their take on the subject.

The topic this month is “From an Architect’s Table”

We do not cook a Thanksgiving meal at our house. We are fortunate enough to have extended family to celebrate Thanksgiving with and a mother who is still able and willing to prepare the bulk of the feast. Besides that, i loathe cooking. I thought about sitting this one out when asked to share a favorite recipe as part of this #ArchiTalks installment. I racked my brain trying to think of something to share to no avail. I even considered sharing a non food ‘recipe’. I was about the erase this post from my queue. But as i thought about it more, one thing i always looked forward to at holiday meals was my grandmother’s Parker House Rolls. Now i have never made them, so i am not sure they technically qualify as being “from an architect’s table.” Nonetheless, here is the recipe:

ParkerHouse

Recipe for Parker House Rolls in my mother’s hand. It appears to have been used much more than i know it has been.

Parker House Rolls

1 T. Yeast

1/4 c. Sugar

1 3/4 tsp salt

1/3 c. shortening

1 1/2 c. warm water

5 – 5 1/4 c. flour

Soften yeast in warm water. Add Salt, shortening, and sugar. Add flour a little at a time until smooth dough forms. Let rise until double. Roll dough out to about 1/4″ thick & cut into circles using a biscuit cutter. Brush with melted butter, fold over and place in 9×13 baking pan with the fold down.  Let rise again. Bake at 450º for 15 – 18 minutes. Brush tops with melted butter.*

Best served warm.
